Day 13September 20, 2000
VIA Rail's "Canadian" is the only transcontinental train left in Canada. It runs from Toronto to Vancouver and we encountered it twice (one in each direction) at the Jasper station. There is currently no scheduled train service on the more southerly route through Banff and Lake Louise, but you can take the Rocky Mountaineer tourist train from Vancouver to Banff/Calgary. Before arriving at Jasper, we taken the highway from Prince George to Jasper - there isn't much between these two cities except for a few small towns and the odd service station next to the road. We crossed into Alberta and Jasper National Park over Yellowhead Pass.
